Limpsfield is a great country walk that is just 30 minutes from London Bridge. Follow part of the Greensand Way to the Kent border before a rendez vous with the Vanguard Way.
Getting there: Trains from London Bridge on a Saturday take just 30 mins. We caught the 10.08 on a Saturday morning and tickets cost just £9 for a same day return. Trains direct from London Bridge were hourly or you could change at East Croydon. Destination is Hurst Green station.
What to wear: Relatively few steep climbs on this walk so just a set of decent trainers are needed in case you come across any boggy patches, should it have rained recently. You’ll be going through woodland so try not to wear your best shoes.
Duration: 3 hours.
Did you know? Why not stop half way through your walk at The Carpenter’s Arms? Enjoy a quick soft drink in their beer garden if the sun is out and then continue your walk.
The route:
This route assumes you are exiting the train from London Bridge. Follow the platform to the end where an exit brings you out onto a small car park. You should spot a bridge that stretches across the track, don’t go over to the other side, instead head left onto Hurstlands and follow this road as it bends through local housing.
Soon, to your right you’ll see a turning for Home Park, you’ll see a narrow tarmac path that goes right between the houses. This path leads onto some more houses, go over this road and keep following the path until you enter a playing field.
Follow the path to the right around the playing field for about 30 metres until you see a gap between the trees. This presents a pathway lined with trees either side. This path goes between the two fields. Follow this path to Pollards Wood Road, turn onto this road and before it veers right take the path that leads off left.
Here you’ll find the only steep path along our journey and it takes just 10 seconds to ascend. You’ll come to a school driveway where you turn right and then right again at the main road (Wolf’s Hill). Walk along here until you meet a junction and walk onto New Road. After about 15 metres you’ll see a pathway that leads right and crosses Limpsfield Common that you should take.
